Our apologies that it has taken rather longer than usual for the panel of judges to choose the winners of the sayings competition. This is partly because there were so many excellent entries this year. In a closely fought contest, the judges chose as winner of the prize for “most like a proverb” the saying:

Never trust the milkman that winks because philandering inherently risks heartbreak.

The competitor who sent in that entry is from Godalming.

For the winner of the most inventive they chose:

Never take the Midhurst turning when beautiful Petworth is right here.

No prejudice on the part of the judges in favour of Petworth of course! (And the competitor submitting that entry was from Ashington near Pulborough anyway.)

Thank you all for your entries and good wishes. The quiz this year has raised £28,288, which is a wonderful result.
